Hey guys and gals!!
This is a fun post, to share some stories from my recent trip to St.John’s, Newfoundland!
Jennifer Brown (Now, Jennifer Furtado) is a good friend from work, who I had the pleasure of working with in the last year for maternity and baby photos. I was beyond thrilled when she asked me to come to Newfoundland and now capture her and the love of her life Chris’s wedding. I was allllll over the chance to be a part of their wedding day. When she was booking my flight, she told me that I couldn’t just come for her wedding, and that I should really consider making a trip out of it! I like trips…. SO Mrs. Furtado booked me a week in St.Johns.
As the trip came closer, my boyfriend Brent decided to come along for the fun! I was so excited that he decided to come! We started the trip off in St Johns on Thursday where we joined the tail end of Chris’s bachelor party… we were certain the boys had a blast! The next day (Friday) we joined Jen and her friend Erin on a hike up Signal Hill. We were SO lucky to have the most beautiful day ever!! And I was able to capture these beauty snaps of the hike 🙂
Later that day, we went out to Bay Bulls to do some whale watching. I hoped to see at least ONE whale. I did not set my expectations high, because really… they can’t guarantee that we will actually see whales. BUT we were super lucky and saw SOOO many, and SO close up!! it was definitely a trip highlight. I was in awe the entire time! Here is why:
Then on Saturday, I had the privilege of photographing this amazing wedding. It was a blast from start to finish. When I initially woke up, it was dark and grey and super rainy outside… but then it left this romantic looking for for portrait time 🙂
On Sunday, we went for a beautiful brunch to this place called Beachy Cove. It was a Ma and Pa type place where the same people who take your order cook your food and bring it out. I loved it. Friendly people and yummy food. After that, we joined the newlyweds and a lot of the out of towners at Flat Rock, which is one of Chris’s favourite climbing locations. It was prettty awesome if I do say so myself, and I have climbed in some cool spots. Brent had never climbed before this trip, but it is definitely something I have been eager to get him to try! So as I am climbing this super fun wall, as the boys set up an expert climb down the way, I learned that Brent was trying to be a hero and started off his rock climbing adventures on the expert wall!! Well I obviously had to go and cheer him on, and take some pics that made him look pretty badass:
Then we wrapped up with some fun pics with Lisa and John, and this gorgeous view!
On Monday we spent some time wandering St. Johns. We went down to this cool little fishing town called Quidi Vidi. It had a brewery, and well…. that is about it. The tiny fishing huts, and views were fun to see:
Monday night we hit up the George St. Festival to see the Sheepdogs! It was a rainy evening, but they were amazing!
On Tuesday, we made the trek up to Terra Nova to do some camping. It was cool, cloudy and misty out, but we were eager to get out on at least one hike! We did the Coastal Trail, which took us along the water, and all over a very nicely groomed 3.5 km hike. I failed big time here and took NO photos. Oops. Tuesday night, we camped in the chilly weather in our new tent that we were pretty excited about!
On Wednesday we had BIG plans. We were hoping to hike this trail called the Outport Trail, which is a 20 km return hike. We were stoked to go and see the view at the top of Mount Stamford. SO we got an early start at 6 am, and then hiked for a few hours through waist high, soaking wet bush. It was SO QUIET. For real, like imagine walking through a dense forest, and not hearing a bird chirp or a squirrel running up a tree… it was silent. We finally came to this nice little clearing near the water, and started seeing tons of moose prints and moose droppings. We really wanted to see a moose at some point on the trip… but were not keen to see one that close on the actual trail. That didn’t stop us though. THEN we ran into a very distinct bear print. We still continued onwards, until we found a big pile of bear poop in the middle of the trail. We were at about the half way point when we called it quits. There were no people for at least 10 km, and we really didn’t have anything on us to fight off a bear lol… I was sad we didn’t get to see the top of Mount Stamford… but I am happy we didn’t run into any bears 🙂 Again… I failed on the photos here…. Oops again!
We decided to head back to St. John’s earlier that day. What started off as a gloomy morning, turned into a gorgeous afternoon when we went to Cape Spear and stood on the most eastern spot in North America, and saw these stunning views:
Before we returned the rental car, we managed to snap some photos of the awesome colourful houses that paint the city. I personally like the pink one with the yellow door 🙂
That pretty much wraps up the trip highlights! I tend to drag on stories… but I don’t like to leave anything out! Here is my favourite photo from the whole trip! Overall… success. SO happy I finally got to see some of the East Coast 🙂
Happy day!!

beautiful!
